Martin & CO D-16GT | USA | 2004
Experience the traditional Dreadnought sound at an exceptional value. Just in at Sun-Sounds Music shop in Sliema, Malta. Among Martin guitars, which set the standard for the acoustic guitar world, the D-16GT combines genuine Martin quality with a wonderfully accessible price point, and this particular example brings that value even further within reach.
The model's most distinctive feature is right there in the name: "GT" stands for Gloss Top. The body top is generously crafted from solid Sitka spruce finished in a lustrous gloss, while the back and sides are satin-finished mahogany. This combination of finishes strikes a beautiful balance: a top that looks and feels luxurious under stage or shop lighting, paired with a satin back and sides that stay warm, natural, and comfortable against the body for hours of playing.
Tonally, this pairing is just as considered as it looks. The rich, full-bodied bass response of Martin's traditional Dreadnought body blends beautifully with the crisp, bright, sweet mid and high frequencies that solid mahogany is known for. From the powerful low-end push of a full strum to the fine detail of fingerpicking, the D-16GT translates a player's touch directly into sound, holding nothing back.
You can now own that Martin you have always dreamt of, this guitar is the chance to stop waiting.
What makes this particular 2004 D-16GT worth a closer look is its history. It was clearly a well-loved instrument, played enough that its owner invested in having the entire body and neck professionally refinished, faithfully restored to the guitar's original gloss-top-and-satin-back appearance. Work of this standard, matching factory finish and sheen across the whole body and neck, is not a quick or inexpensive job, and it shows: the guitar presents beautifully, with none of the unevenness or shortcuts you'd expect from a budget refinish. It is a testament to how much this instrument was valued by its previous owner, and the result is a guitar that plays and looks the part of an instrument that has been properly cared for, and not just patched up.
As this is a used instrument, please note that the condition details below reflect our own inspection. The entire body and neck have been professionally refinished, faithfully restored to the guitar's original gloss top and satin back appearance. There are very light marks, and scuffs consistent with normal use, but you can't tell this is 22 years old, the guitar has no cracks and is in excellent overall condition. Low action and very easy to play.
