Where Malta's Musicians Meet: Open Mic Nights & Jam Sessions in 2026

Bridge Bar — Valletta

If you play (or just love) jazz, this is Valletta's home for it. An Irish pub on Tower Road (George Borg Olivier) that's become one of the island's most reliable weekly open mic nights, hosted by local band The Mallet Finger every Thursday from around 20:00–21:00, mixing live sets with open floor slots for anyone who wants to get up. (A quick correction: this one's actually in St Julian's, not Gzira — easy mix-up since it's just up the road. Worth a visit either way.)

Babel Bistro — Valletta

A different format from the rest of this list, but worth knowing about: Babel, on Archbishop Street just off Republic Street, runs live music every night of the week, 8–11pm, with a different band each night rotating through jazz, funk, and blues. Their own site has a page literally called "Jam With Us," inviting musicians to sit in alongside the house players — so rather than one fixed weekly open-mic slot, it's more of a nightly walk-in jam culture. 2026-dated reviews on Tripadvisor confirm it's still running as described.

Down the Rabbit Hole — Msida (Gzira border, Rue D'Argens)

This Irish-themed bar on Rue D'Argens runs open mic jam sessions as a regular part of its events calendar — we found one logged for a Saturday night session, plus a separate "Comedy Night Open Mic," suggesting they rotate music and comedy open-mic formats rather than running a single fixed weekly slot. Worth noting for the Gzira crowd: it's technically just over the line in Msida, on the same street (Rue D'Argens) where Gzira's much-missed Casey's Bar used to run its own open mic before closing in 2022 — so in a sense, the torch passed just a few doors down.
