Manuel Rodriguez | Tesoro De La Botega | Master Class

"Tesoro de la Bodega" is a Spanish expression which means "The Treasure of the Cellar".

Here's why: Manuel Rodriguez, the father of Manuel Rodriguez Jr, lived in a house in Madrid. In the old street of Ministriles, 6, baho deha. In addition to making wonderful guitars he was a great connoisseur and collector of Spanish wine. He kept them in a deep, cool, dry cellar in his home.

In 1955 he learned of a walnut tree that was to be cut in the Matasnos area of Peñaranda de Duero, Castilla y León, Spain. This tree, being around 110 years old and over 20m tall, seemed ideal for him to use for a special guitar model. Manuel could only buy part of the tree because wood was already very expensive at that time and he didn't have the money to buy all the wood from that tree. He could nevertheless select the most attractive walnut to make astonoshing backs and sides for around 100 guitars. He had kept this wood in his wine cellar in Madrid.

Before moving  with his family to Los Angeles in 1959, he told the owner of the that house to keep the wood in the cellar and not to move it. The house has been sold several times and for more than 60 years the wood has simply been left there, forgotten. 5 years ago the current owner of the house found the wood in the old cellar, did some research on who could have been the owner ... he discovered and contacted the Rodriguez family, Manuel was able to prove that his father bought the wood and has returned these precious cuts to the guitar world.

Now is the time to return this 160+ year old tree to Planet Earth guitarists'.

We have selected Canadian red cedar tops, old cedar necks and beautiful Indian ebony for the fretboard. The nut and saddle are made from very old bone. The armrest is made with the same back nut and sides ... The production couldn't reach the 100 mark as desired by Manuel Rodriguez Senior but there are only 96 of these guitars available. One of them is at us, Sun-Sounds music shop in Sliema, Malta.

Don't be surprised if this guitar feels a little heavier than other MR guitars. Walnut is very old and much denser than the walnut you would buy today. The trees grew slower at that time. (This walnut is around 20% heavier in weight from rosewood, which is quite remarkable) We understand that this is a guitar with great projection capabilities! So, if you want to be heard, this is your perfect match!

The guitar is finished in an old / new style - This guitar is lacquered with a special high Schellack paint. The paint is thin, soft, and easily damaged if you're not careful. You should be extremely careful not to put your guitar in a hot environment. The paint may become soft.

The sound, sustain and "wide voice" will give you the greatest satisfaction. It comes along HANNABACH 1869 Jubilee string set. Included is also a beautiful guitar in a brown GEWA PREMIUM ARCHTOP case.

Few people can own this unique and wonderful walnut guitar. But we congratulate you on deciding to be one of them. Play it as often as you can and keep it in good shape for future generations!
