  • The Dire Straits Experience in MALTA this October 26th 2017!

TICKETS FROM: https://www.showshappening.com/Omega-events-Malta/40th-Anniversary-of-The-Dire-Straits--World-Tour-20172018--The-Dire-Straits-Experience THE LEGEND LIVES ON! - brought to us by OMEGA EVENTS It has been more than 35 years since the opening line of Sultans Of Swing was first heard being broadcast around the world. In the process, it introduced us to a majestic guitar player and songwriter in Mark Knopfler, and to what has become a musical universe unto itself: the music of Dire Straits. Over 20 years have passed since Dire Straits disbanded, leaving a catalogue of some of the finest compositions and musical performances that the heyday of rock ever produced. If anything, their reputation has only grown with time. Record sales of more than one hundred and twenty million albums continue to increase as new young fans discover the music and join the band’s massive worldwide following. It was against the backdrop of this two-decade break – and an increasing demand to hear one of the most dramatic songbooks in rock history played live again – that members of Dire Straits, Alan Clark,Chris White and Phil Palmer formed The Straits for a charity show at The Royal Albert Hall in 2011. With the prolific Knopfler enjoying an incredibly successful solo career, Alan Clark called upon the singer songwriter, Terence Reis to front the band in his absence. By the time The Straits ended, three and a half years later, the band had played more than 150 shows in 25 countries around the world. An invitation to play a series of shows in New Zealand and Australia has seen Chris White and Terence Reis collaborating again for The Dire Straits Experience. Joining them is a stellar band of some of the finest professional musicians the UK has to offer. Between them they have worked with an enviable list of rock royalty that includes, amongst others, Mark Knopfler, David Gilmour, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Elton John, David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Tina Turner, Van Morrison, Tom Jones and Sheryl Crow. Chris White, who worked with Mark Knopfler from the early ‘80s on film scores, joined Dire Straits for their record breaking Brothers In Arms world tour in 1985. This included their performance at Live Aid and, later, the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday concert in 1988. He went on to play on the final Dire Straits album, On Every Street, and was again part of the two-year world tour that produced the live On The Night album and DVD. Having experienced the audience response to a live Dire Straits show at the height of the band’s popularity, he speaks fondly of the fans today. “I have been truly amazed and, frankly, humbled by the response we have had from the fans on hearing these songs again. Dire Straits have the most amazingly loyal fan base. It has been so great to reconnect with people I last saw in 1992 and see them still getting so much from this music. Also, it is fantastic to make new friends among the many young people who are now discovering Mark and Dire Straits. So many people still want to experience this live.” And of the years playing along side Mark Knopfler? Chris appreciates that it was always going to be an almost impossible task to bring any sense of authenticity to these extraordinary pieces of music without Mark Knopfler. “When I was first approached to put together a band to play the Dire Straits songs at the Albert Hall, I didn’t believe it would be possible to find someone who would be able to stand in Mark’s shoes without sounding like an imposter. I was wrong. In Terence Reis, I think we may have found the only person on the planet that is able to play and sing like Mark, but maintain his own integrity and identity. I think this is the very essence of why the fans have been so accepting of what we do. They believe in Terence as his own man. They know he is not trying to be Mark. Because of his respect for Mark, Terence is able to perform these songs in a very honest way that allows his energy and talent to come through. This is exactly what allows the performances to feel alive and fresh. Not slavish copies of a bygone time. Without Terence, this would simply not work.” And so it is that these songs, in all their ambition, grandeur and aching beauty, are once again presented live... for the fans that that have kept them alive. • CITES newly added laws - Dalbergia Latifolia and more wood types

As of the 2nd of January 2017, a new law has been introduced that will affect how Rosewoods are traded across borders. As you well might be aware, most guitar fretboards and bridges are made out of Rosewood and that will have a heavy impact on how easy it is to purchase a guitar with Rosewood. It does NOT apply to guitars (or other instruments) that are being traded within the borders of one country, but any time an instrument with Rosewood is sold internationally it requires CITES certification. We can ship any instruments containing Rosewood anywhere around the globe although we would need to go through the necessary CITES procedures, and that will take somewhere around the 2 to 4 weeks period to get the green light. We will now be expecting more price increase for guitars that contain rosewood over the coming months so if you have your eyes on a particular instrument we recommend buying sooner rather than later. It may be considered as an investment having that the wood is now being highly protected. Therefore its demand will increase on the decrease of its supply ;-) The environment is definitely a very important concern for us here at Sun-Sounds. All guitars are given to us thanks to our Earth and its environment. This is our fair share of respecting and following the authorities in constraining production with such laws. This will by time help consumerism take various other paths and hence help protect what we have to decrease the chances of losing certain flora for ever.

  • Gregg T. Alf "Haddock" Guarneri del Gesu

We are proud to announce that we are selling a Gregg T. Alf Violin. This violin we are selling is made from a “Haddock” Guarneri del Gesu model. It was made in 1994 by Gregg T. Alf in Ann Arbor, Michigan. After being in possession of Gregg T. Alf for 20 years the violin was sold in 2014. The original buyer believes that it’s time for the violin to find a new owner. Gregg T. Alf is a renowned contemporary American violin maker located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Gregg T. Alf spent 8 years in Cremona, Italy where he graduated from the international Violin Making School. He returned to the United States in 1984 and founded the violin-making studios of Curtin & Alf together with Joseph Curtin. This partnership attracted the attention of various stars of the violin world such as Ruggiero Ricci, Zvi Zeitlin, Elmar Oliviera and many others. For his early work, he made replicas of classic Italian instruments. The Violin comes with a Musafia Momentum Case and a CodaBow Diamond GX. The Musafia Momentum is a high-quality artisan-made case. With the Momentum Case Musafia wanted to create a completely super-compact and ultra-light design for those on the go. The case comes with a hygrometer and humidifier to prevent the violin from cracking when the humidity is low. The CodaBow Diamond GX is the crown jewel of the Diamond Collection. Thanks to the Kevlar core, it yields a timbre and subtleness of response that rivals fine Pernambuco bows. The bow produces an organic sound that has never been achieved in a carbon fibre bow. Fun Facts: Gregg T. Alf uses science and technology to better understand the acoustical foundations of his craft. In 2013 a Curtin & Alf copy of the 1731 “Gibson-Huberman” Guarneri del Gesu violin set a world auction record for an instrument by a living maker. The violin, built in 1985 for Ruggiero Ricci, was sold for $132.000 at Tarisio in New York. This will be the finest instrument sold by Sun-Sounds. • Sigma-Guitars Acoustic Guitars in Malta

While launching our new music store project we were looking into a good acoustic guitar brand to start importing and distributing in the Maltese Islands. Something that would help solidify our Sun-Sounds brand. After we had went through a good amount of travelling, trials of various different acoustic guitars, and an intense research we decided to go with Sigma-Guitars. Being modeled after C.F Martin & Co Guitars and at affordable prices with a brilliant expertise in guitar building. We saw that the odds were in our favor and therefore we are hereby presenting you with this selection of these brilliantly made Sigma-Guitars. Sigma Guitars were launched in the year 1970. Guitar maker C.F. Martin & Co., based in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, created a line of inexpensive guitars in 1970 to compete with the increasing number of imported guitars from Japan and elsewhere. The result was Sigma Guitars. Sigma Guitars were launched as a response to the competitors from the Far East who were gaining a large foothold in the guitar market using established models and were always one step ahead of the market. The Sigma line was discontinued by C.F. Martin & Co. in 2007. In 2011 the German company "AMI Musical Instruments GmbH" purchased the rights to the name and relaunched Sigma Guitars again.
